The graduate program in Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) provides a close-knit, collegial atmosphere for students seeking PhD degrees. Students may pursue an MS in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on energy and sustainability, giving them experience in the design and manufacturing of sustainable products and mechanical systems. This program is for students finishing a BS in engineering or a related field with a desire to move into the increasingly critical energy/sustainability field. Dedicated, intensive and hands-on courses provide thorough training and preparation for exciting jobs. This program "is highly interdisciplinary and includes deep technical courses in energy and technology topics, and critically important courses in the policy, law and economics of energy."

The Global and Ecological Health Engineering program "teaches engineers to become globally competent in either biomedical or environmental engineering and sustainability." It aims to teach "global and ecologically competent engineering" to its students, preparing them for careers in health systems. This certificate program is run concurrently with the existing biomedical and environmental engineering master’s programs with one additional quarter, and includes a summer research project in Jodhpur, India, Chicago, or other locations.
