A brief description of on-site renewable electricity generating devices :

The Centre for the Built Environment (CBE), part of NSCC's Waterfront campus, generates electricity with photovoltaic cells and wind turbines throughout the year.

At the CBE, there are eight connected generators. For the performance year, several generators were not producing to their full capacity. Two wind generators and one solar array were offline for most of the year (Windspire WG 4 and Endurance Windmill, Bifacial PV on tracker). One PV array was repaired and returned to service (Roof mounted Standard PV) and one PV array was taken offline pending repairs later in the period shown (Roof-mounted Bifacial).

The Pilikan House also operates using photovoltaic cells, however this energy was not included in the declared values due to a lack of data.


A brief description of on-site renewable non-electric energy devices:

Waterfront Campus and Pilikan House both operate solar hot water systems, Waterfront's solar hot water has been included in the declared values. In addition, both Shelburne and Waterfront Campuses have small solar heaters capable of heating small sections of the campuses.

A brief description of the RECs and/or similar renewable energy products:

NSCC purchases renewable energy each month from Bullfrog Power for the front section of the IT campus. Bullfrog Power is a certified B Corp and been awarded B Corp’s Best for the World (2015), Best for the Environment (2014, 2015) and Best for Workers (2014, 2015). All energy sources used by Bullfrog Power are local Canadian renewable energy production sites and have been certified with EcoLogo.
