Which of the following best describes the institution’s approach to rainwater management?:
Comprehensive policies, plans or guidelines that require LID practices for all new projects

A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:

Ohio University has a Storm Water Management Program (SWMP), which was adopted in 2017. The SWMP is based on model language from the Ohio EPA and refers to their Rainwater and Land Development: Ohio’s Standards for Stormwater Management manual.

Construction project managers at Ohio University are encouraged to incorporate stormwater best management practices in all construction projects to aid in reaching the goal of LEED Silver or equivalent certification for all buildings or renovations above $1 million. BMPs such as rain gardens, green roofs, bioswales and bioretention ponds are now applications considered for all new buildings. A recent $32.8 million renovation project for the Patton College of Education highlighted sustainable stormwater components, including a gutter-fed green roof system as well as a bioswale implemented to absorb parking lot stormwater runoff. Existing campus space is being upgraded to current best management practices as renovations or alterations occur for all other projects. The university is in the process of creating written policies and procedures for low impact development practices for the Design & Construction department.
