A brief description of the event(s):

In Fall 2008, distinguished speaker series on campus has brought in guests such as Jane Goodall, Wangari Maathai (http://www.okcu.edu/news/?id=2281), and Erik Peterson with Seven Revolutions who have all had to do with sustainability issues in one way or another. The business school had an Eco-Summit this year for sustainability education in the business school. This summer the university is hosting an event entitled Peace, Poverty, and Planet Earth which will deal heavily with issues of sustainability as well. The university has also partnered with sustainability organizations in the city, such as Sustainability OKC to sponsor workshops and other events.

In Fall 2010, OCU hosted Eco-week event October 25-29. Through discussions, film screenings and guest speakers, OCU officials hope to encourage students to adapt environmentally friendly habits. Speakers Mark Davies and Autumn Radle gave information on sustainable practices for students. The environmental documentaries "Home" and "Kilowatt Ours" were screened.

OCU partnered with Transition OKC to bring films such as "Tapped" to a campus auditorium on Friday Nights throughout the year. There is always a discussion following the film and frequently a panel as well. These events are free and open to the public.

OCU is hosting a conference on sustainability titled Caring for Our HOME: Educating Moral Leaders for Ecological Sustainability, September 23-24, 2011. This collaborative conference focuses on the role of higher education in working with students and communities to create educational programs and community partnerships to care for planet earth. Sponsored by the Oikos Scholars Program at Oklahoma City University in partnership with the Institute of Cultural Affairs - USA.
