A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
New Student Orientation (Preview) offers many resources online, reducing paper and fuel used to travel to campus. These include an online transfer student orientation (also available to distance learners), online placement testing and surveys, and online modules that teach students about academic requirements and how to register for classes. In addition, rather than stuffing large packets of information for students, we compile information in an online New Student Checklist. We also offer parents the opportunity to participate in a virtual Parents’ Meeting in the fall (rather than taking a trip to campus).
Promote T.E.N.T.S. (Team Expeditions for New and Transfer Students), a program out of Recreation and Wellness for incoming students and parents. The team expeditions focus on developing leadership and team-building while exploring the outdoors and supporting ecological immersion.
Promote the Career Management Center’s CashCourse program in our Preview Guide (a publication we compile and have printed). CashCourse teaches students about money management and long-term financial planning, providing economic sustainability education. New Student Orientation also offers an opportunity for students to complete employment paperwork during Preview.
