A brief description of the program or practice:

ODU's Storm Water Management Plan has been developed to ensure that the campus is developed to meet regulatory requirements. The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) developed guidelines to ensure that construction activities in environmentally sensitive areas are conducted in a manner that will protect and improve water quality, particularly in the Chesapeake Bay.

ODU has an established low maintenance low water, plant pallet that is used for all landscape projects. Native, drought-resistant plants reduce the amount of water needed for landscaping. Bermuda sod is used throughout the majority of the campus due to its ability to survive during the drought months.
