Building Level Utility Submetering

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

Onondaga Community College installed utility submeters on all of the campus buildings. This allows the College to track electricity, natural gas, and water consumption at the building level in order to better manage, and reduce resource consumption. The data is tracked and analyzed regularly in order to identify opportunities for reducing resource consumption.


A brief description of any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation (if not reported above):

The utility submetering project has resulted in improved energy management due to the ability to monitor real-time energy consumption. Detailed analysis is conducted regularly by staff to identify opportunities for reducing energy including modifying occupancy schedules to reduce HVAC run time hours.
