Does the institution have an on-campus garden where students are able to gain organic farming and/or gardening experience?:
Yes

A brief description of the garden:

•PLU`s organic garden donates about 2 tons of fresh food (peas, lettuce, kale, spinach, broccoli, carrots, beets, and tomatoes) to Trinity’s food bank for homeless and low income families, as well as providing locally grown and handpicked herbs for use in Dining Services.

•Connects Parkland community members and PLU students.

•Events: Cooking workshops are provided for students to learn how to cook the foods that are grown in the garden (in partnership with Dining & Culinary Services). They also sponsor events to raise awareness about global hunger concerns. Every Sunday, the garden is open for students and campus groups to be involved. Many organizations across campus have planned programs in collaboration with the garden as a way to get students involved across campus, and to learn about healthy food options.

•The Community Garden also has a “Tool Share” program, where they offer PLU community members a chance to start or continue their own garden without purchasing their own tools. Students/Faculty/Staff can borrow tools without a charge, to help facilitate their own food production.
