Does the institution hold major events related to sustainability, such as conferences, speaker series, or symposia, that have students as the intended audience?:
Yes

A brief description of the event(s):

A biennial symposia is held at PLU with a pertinent topic chosen by our campus study away advocates. In 2012, the Water Symposia was held at PLU, addressing the current global water crisis through the eyes of speakers from around the world.

PLU’s Environmental Studies hosts an annual Earth Day speaker to discuss a topical subject. The majority of environmental studies courses encourage or require attendance while the entirety of the student body is encouraged to attend.

The Coal Hard Truth forum was held in 2012 to inform students and community members of the possibility of Washington becoming a major coal exporter to Asia. The impacts of coal on the environment and human health were addressed.

PLU hosts a series of talks called Sex Positive. Sex Positive invites speakers to come to campus and address issues related to healthy relationships and sex lives. The series is intended to create a healthy dialogue about sex in the campus community and help students to be more aware and knowledgeable about surrounding issues.
