A brief description of when and why the water use baseline was adopted:

We are using the same baseline year as for the energy, waste and greenhouse gas emissions criteria. It corresponds to the year just before opening the new Lassonde buildings which is are LEED Gold certified buildings. Since then, a lot of efforts have been deployed to decrease considerably Polytechnique' water use.

A brief description of the institution's initiatives to replace plumbing fixtures, fittings, appliances, equipment, and systems with water-efficient alternatives (e.g. building retrofits):

In the last ten years, water consumption at Polytechnique has nearly been divided by 3. Replacement of equipments for less water consuming equipments is the main reason for this important decrease. New toilets have been installed but some important changes also come from modifications into laboratory equipment or procedures and via the installation of multiple new HVAC systems. Nowadays, when a change of equipment is needed, Polytechnique always strives to use more efficient technologies.
