A brief description of steps taken to ensure that e-waste is recycled responsibly, workers’ basic safety is protected, and environmental standards are met:

- All unwanted or disposed of electronic equipment is handle through our Central Distribution Service Department, Surplus Sales department. The staff are specifically trained to handle such electronic waste materials. E-waste is collected by the department on a by request basis. The equipment is then either re-used by other department through surplus requests, sold to the general public at auction if it is still in good operational condition, or properly recycling through local, conscientious Portland-based vendors such as Total Reclaim.

- Additionally, PCC holds an annual eCycles day event in May. This event gives faculty, staff, students and the general public an opportunity to properly recycle their all of their stock-piled electronic waste. The e-waste is collected by volunteer staff during this event who are working side-by-side with trained electronic recycling professionals provided by our reliable e-waste recycling vendor, Total Reclaim. In 2010 the event properly recycled over 13 tons of e-waste!
