A brief description of the campaign(s):

Waste Reduction Week
To draw attention to the amount of waste produced at RRC, the College developed an EcoMug campaign. Posters were developed to show the amount of coffee cup waste producted at Red River College (stacked one inside the other, our cup waste was taller than Mount Everest!). The Sustainability Office and Campus Services teamed up to sell reusable mugs below cost to staff and students and raise awareness about the collective impacts of our actions. Altogehter more than 800 EcoMugs were sold.

Earth Hour
To commemorate Earth Hour, the Sustainability Office set up a display. Students and staff were invited to sign their name on a paper cut out of a CFL lightbulb if they were committed to 'turning off' for Earth Hour. Participants were also asked to write down one 'green' action they committed to take.

First year Mug Giveaway
Instead of giving out first year binders, containing College policies and relevant information for new students, RRC gave all first-year students reusable stainless steel coffee mugs. Information was printed on the mugs to direct students to College policies and programs online.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign(s):

Waste Reduction Week - The impact of the EcoMug campaign reduced cup waste by 20%.

Earth Hour - 600 students and staff committed to 'shut off' for Earth Hour. Altoghether our collective action saved enough electricity to power an average home in Winnipeg for 1.5 months!

First Year Mug Giveaway - This project saved 22,5000 pages of paper.
