Green Economy Consortia
The Illinois Green Economy Network (IGEN) exists to share best practices in sustainability between all community colleges in Illinois (the third largest community college system in the nation) and their respective communities with the goal of spurring economic development in a way that leads to healthier, equitable, resilient, vibrant, and more sustainable communities in Illinois. IGEN leverages the strengths and collective impact of the individual colleges to expand deployment of green technologies, increase employment opportunities, improve environmental and human health, foster community engagement, and accelerate market competitiveness. This has led to the development of several new courses including CCS 115 (Intro to Carbon Capture and Storage), CCS 275 (Advanced Sequestration Applications), PV 101 (Basic Photovoltaics), and PV 201 (PV Site Assessor Training).
