All new construction, major renovations and other project that increase hard surfaces have to have an approved (Southwest Florida Water Management District) storm water management plan. The policy, plan, and/or strategies address both the quantity and quality (or contamination level) of storm water runoff.

Ringling College understands the need to have a comprehensive rainwater management plan actively in place. We currently plan and pursue capturing as much rainwater run-off from roof-tops and hard surfaces as possible. We utilize a variety of methods and practices in this approach including the use of a 25,000 gallon underground storage cistern that captures rainwater runoff. Once collected, a series of pumps moves the non-potable water through a chlorination proportioner and then is reused to flush toilets within our Thompson Academic Building.
In addition to the cistern, the college has a series of storm-water vaults that captures and filters rainwater run off. These storm water vaults are maintained under the direction of a local civil engineering firm that provides annual testing and certification results to Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD).
