Tempe Union High School District (TUHSD) - Rio Salado College, along with Arizona State University, partnered with TUHSD to issue a Request for Proposals to solicit energy conservation, collaboration, and curriculum development. Rio Salado staff participated in review of proposals from five entities, including Chevron Energy Services, Johnson Controls Inc., and Honeywell Corporation which included strategies for energy monitoring, exploration on energy conservation measures (ECMs), and energy related curriculum development assistance. Rio staff participated in the interview and selection process and will continue to collaborate on implementing ECMs and share in the curriculum components. Rio Salado College also hosted a summer sustainability workshop for teachers within TUHSD. Rio Salado faculty provided TUHSD teachers with ideas of how to infuse sustainability into the curriculum.
Green Learning Campus - Rio Salado College, in partnership with the City of Phoenix, the nonprofit organization Brighten a Life, Cause and Effect Evolutions, and Phoenix Union High School District is building a “Green Learning Campus” that will bring the first green charter high school to downtown Phoenix. Students at the campus will have the option to receive both high school and college credit simultaneously through dual enrollment, giving them a very affordable head start on their bachelor’s degrees. Free Adult Basic Education programming, including basic skills, GED preparation, and English language acquisition, in partnership with the Arizona Department of Education, will also be offered.

Rio Salado College collaborates regularly with other college campuses to advance sustainability in higher education as a whole. Rio regularly participates in and contributes to discussions and questions on the Green Schools listserve. Staff members take part in monthly conference calls focused on sustainability issues at community colleges across the country.
