the following language is included in our vendor contract for cleaning supplies:

"To facilitate safety, toxics reduction, cost optimization, and green building objectives, the RIT requires detailed reporting on the cleaning products stored and used in campus buildings. Reporting details shall support compliance with LEED™ v4 O&M requirements for cleaning products. The Contractor shall submit monthly detailed usage reports to the Senior Sustainability Advisor and any other RIT points-of-contact that request these reports. The report(s) shall be submitted electronically, in a Microsoft Excel compatible format."

Through the supply contract, all building services staff members undergo Rochester Midland Corporation’s green housekeeping training and all of the products used for daily cleaning in academic and administrative buildings as well as student housing facilities are certified green products.

RIT uses APPA's Facilities Performance Indicators to benchmark energy and other facilities metrics. Campus energy intensity per square foot is also benchmarked against historic campus data. A building control system is used to manage campus energy consumption and newer buildings also employ building dashboards.
