A brief description of the IPM plan(s) :

RMCAD implemented an IPM program for the first time in the Summer of 2011. RMCAD is working with an IPM specialist to monitor pests with monitor “sticky” cards and/or site visits by the specialist to identify the action threshold and to monitor and identify pests on campus. The prevention methods have not been completed at this point because the program was just put into place during the Summer 2011 growing season and prevention takes much more planning and design to incorporate plant varieties that will be pest resistant. Less risky controls have been put into place particularly for the large American Elm trees on the campus whereby RMCAD has determined that spraying and soil injecting is not an optimal approach. If the trees must be inoculated for Dutch Elm and scale the trees will choose the less risky trunk injection rather than overhead spraying or soil injecting. The plan also works to build the soil rather than just spray with petroleum based fertilizers and herbicides. It is possible that herbicides will need to be used, but the first attempt will be to spot treat and broadcast spraying will only occur in limited amounts and in limited locations.
