Custodial Services typically disposes of 2-3 roll-off dumpsters per year. This year, these roll-offs totaled 8 tons: two tons of cardboard was recycled, and six tons was either landfilled or went to the Pope/Douglas County Waste-to-Energy incinerator to generate electricity and steam for nearby businesses in Alexandria, MN. We also have waste from the "bone yard" that is transported to the Elk River landfill and used to generate methane.
As a part of common practice (not necessarily policy), our institution tries to recycle as much as we can from ongoing construction projects.
