A brief description of the institution’s workplace health and safety initiatives, including how workers are engaged in monitoring and advising on health and safety programs:

Saint Joseph's College has a dedicated Campus Safety Officer focused on all safety related initiatives for faculty, staff, and students. The Safety Officer works closely with Human Resources, Facilities, and Campus Security departments to ensure the environment is operating at an optimal level with regard to ergonomics, chemical, physical (structure and human aspect), and security related issues. This individual provides educational programming for faculty, staff, and students by providing guest speakers on various topics, articles in the monthly HR The Resource online newsletter, and overall awareness across the College campus.

Safety language is included in all job descriptions in the form of identifying the physical requirements of a role. In addition, the College includes a safety component as one of the eight SJC Performance Standard in job descriptions and in the annual performance evaluation process: "Ensures the safety of self by identifying hazards in the working environment, using and insisting on the use of proper ergonomic methods, complying with and insisting on the compliance to College safety policies and procedures, reporting the potential hazards, and promptly reporting work related injuries".
