SJSU's Organized Research Units that support student sustainability research:
SJSU's Green House
Center for the Development of Recycling: Recycling & Reuse Study of the 300
Largest Businesses in San Jose; San Jose Hotel Waste Reduction & Recycling Study.
Institute for Metropolitan Studies (IMS) prepared a manual with guidelines for incorporating watershed protection measures in trail development in Santa Clara County.
The Environmental Resource Center (ERC) has served SJSU with an annual Earth Day celebration, an environmental library, and other projects that promote sustainability.
Moss Landing Marine Laboratories (MLML) administers the Master of Science in marine science program for California State Universities. It is an outfitted marine operations. MLML is known for a hands-on, field-oriented approach which places students, faculty, researchers and staff at the frontiers of marine science worldwide where discoveries are being made.
The MIneta Transportation Institute 1) Emergency Preparation in Transportation research project includes disaster preparation studies as related to natural catastrophes (such as flooding, mudslides and chemical spills), 2) Spartan Superhighway project headed up by students who are currently prototyping solar-powered Alternative Transit Network (ATN).
Moss Landing and Mineta both encourage Faculty as mentors for students in collaborative research projects.

SJSU ORU's that support faculty research in sustainability include:
Center for the Development of Recycling: San Jose Urban Water Conservation
Program, ULFT Retrofit Program.
Institute for Metropolitan Studies: "A Simple and Inexpensive Approach to Sampling for Pedestrian and Bicycle Surveys: The PABS (Pedestrian and Bicycling Survey) Approach."
The Mineta Transportation Institute: "Identifying Transit Demographics" study examines human behavioral patterns in transportation in order to gather empirical data to support effective development of thriving sustainable transportation systems in the Silicon Valley.
The Moss Landing Marine Laboratory: Dietary niche expansion of a kelp forest predator recovering from intense commercial exploitation
