A brief description of when and why the water use baseline was adopted:

As a campus, we've been using 2010 as a baseline to measure our water reduction since 2013.

Water recycled/reused on campus, performance year:
69,302,200 Gallons

Recycled/reused water withdrawn from off-campus sources, performance year:
69,302,200 Gallons

A brief description of any water recovery and reuse systems employed by the institution:

SJSU is a customer of South Bay Water Recycling (SBWR), a City of San Jose program. The University currently has 3 recycled water accounts with SBWR and uses the recycled water for Irrigation of South Campus Athletic field and Main Campus, Main Campus cooling towers, and uses for industrial applications. All toilet flushing in King Library uses non-potable water via dual plumbing. All new buildings have been constructed with dual plumbing to be recycled water connected ready.

A brief description of any water metering and management systems employed by the institution:

The campus operates its own water distribution system. Various buildings on campus have water meters. These meters are read on a monthly basis.

A campuswide metering system will be installed within the next year. Every campus building will be metered and a water management system will be installed at the Central Plant.

A brief description of any building retrofit practices employed by the institution, e.g. to install high efficiency plumbing fixtures and fittings:

Santa Clara Valley Water District performed a water fixture audit for the main campus and south campus to replace all toilet, urinal, faucet and shower head with high efficiency fixtures. The sink and shower conversions were completed in 2011. The toilets and urinal conversions were completed in 2013.

A brief description of any policies or programs employed by the institution to replace appliances, equipment and systems with water-efficient alternatives:

All appliances and equipment that need to be replaced are always replaced with high efficiency appliances. We further ensure high efficiency appliances are purchased by pursuing incentives by the water utility company.

A brief description of any water-efficient landscape design practices employed by the institution (e.g. xeriscaping):

SJSU FD&O has developed a Landscape Master Plan that specifies native plants, climate appropriate plants and drought tolerant plants throughout campus. Since SJSU uses recycled water for irrigation, all selected plants have a high tolerance to recycled water quality.

A brief description of any weather-informed irrigation technologies employed by the institution:
---

A brief description of other water conservation and efficiency strategies employed by the institution:

1) Reduce water demand - Installation of water efficient fixtures and appliances
2) Convert non-potable water usage to recycled water - Recycled water is used in 3 ways throughout the Main and South Campuses. The Cooling Tower was converted to recycled water in 1999. The Main and South Campus use only recycled water for irrigation. Dual plumbing in the King Library to use recycled water for flushing toilets. All buildings and major renovations built after King Library contain dual plumbing. By the end of 2018, a recycled water main line will be completed that will connect all the remaining buildings to recycled water.
