A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :

The total number of courses offered by SU were obtained from the Institutional Research database. The "sustainability courses" or "courses that include sustainability" were extracted from this master list based on the review of course descriptions by 2 staff and 3 students.

Course inventory analysis methodology:
o All duplicate courses were removed from the total list of courses. A duplicate course is defined by having the same course title and number. For
example: when multiple business statistics courses are offered that feature the same "business statistic" title and number (ECON-2100), only
one course would be counted in the total list of courses.
o Internships, independent studies, study abroad programs, senior projects and practicums were not included (since based on the course catalog's description not enough information was offered to conclude on the level of focus on sustainability or lack thereof).
However, internships, independent studies, study abroad programs, senior projects and practicums with titles describing the focus of the project were counted. An example of an internship that was counted in the list is found in the course EVST-4950, an internship with the title "Forest Restoration Intern".
o Labs are not included in the count
o Rows in Green indicate duplicates found in the "course section title" column
o Rows in Red indicate duplicates found in the "course name" column
o Courses that in the "include sustainability" column have a "1" if they do include sustainability. Courses that do not include sustainability include a "0". Courses that are not counted in our totals feature a "1" in the "do not include" column.

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections

A brief description of how courses with multiple offerings or sections were counted (if different from the options outlined above):

All duplicate courses were removed from the total list of courses. A duplicate course is defined by having the same course title and number. For example: when multiple business statistics courses are offered that feature the same "business statistic" title and number (ECON-2100), only one course would be counted in the total list of courses.
