The name of the campaign (1st campaign):
Book Under Every Tree Campaign

A brief description of the campaign (1st campaign):

The students in Castlegar's Transitional Training Program brought this community-initiated campaign to the college so students could become aware and take part. The campaign, initiated in partnership by the Community Harvest Food Bank and Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy, aimed to put a book under every tree in the community by collecting new or gently used books throughout December. Collection sites were located around town and on campus, and books were put into Christmas hampers.
Students prepared a box to receive the books and hung posters around the campus to build awareness.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (1st campaign):

Selkirk College donated 120 books to this campaign. 245 Christmas Hampers were given to families in the region, all of which contained a book bag of donated books.

The name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Power Saints Challenge

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):

The Sustainability Committee initiated a friendly challenge to college staff in hopes of inspiring people to get rid of some of their individual office appliances and join colleagues in the new shared kitchen. Posters were distributed that graphically displayed how people could make changes to their personal energy consumption (ie. warm clothes rather than a space heater, or an insulated lunch bag instead of a mini fridge).
Power Saint Ambassadors went around campus to talk to people individually regarding the goal of the Environmental Sustainability Committee to reduce campus wide energy consumption. Prizes were awarded to areas of the college that showed the greatest improvement in appliance removal.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

The following appliances were removed from personal offices as a result of the campaign:
6 kettles
3 fridges
3 heaters
15 bulbs (replaced with LED/CFL)
