The Office for Sustainability received a complete list of 2016/2017 fiscal year (aligning with Summer 2016, Fall 2016, and Winter 2017 terms) course offerings from the Office of the Registrar. Courses that are offered both at the undergraduate and graduate level were counted as graduate courses.
Each course was evaluated for sustainability content using the course outline database to form a preliminary assessment. The definitions of sustainability, as outlined in the STARS technical manual, were used including the Brundtland Commission definition of sustainable development, topics covered by the UN SDGs, and/or principles outlined in the Earth Charter.
Through the Vice-Provost, Academic, the Office for Sustainability asked Deans to engage their Program Coordinators in reviewing the draft sustainability course list for classifications or omission. The returned lists were compiled into a final version. About 43% of all courses were verified by the Program Coordinators and/or Faculty.

This additional information is to clarify the inconsistency of the number of academic departments reported in various STARS credits. This report has inconsistency in the number of academic departments reported in various credits due to differences in activities across departments. Although Sheridan College has 6 academic "Faculties," one of these Faculties is the Faculty of Continuing & Professional Studies that offers continuing education classes and does not conduct research. The number of Faculties that have degree programs and conduct research is 5. For example, IC-3: Academics and Demographics states that Sheridan College has 6 academic departments, but we only count 5 departments in AC 1 and AC 9. The courses offered through the Faculty of Continuing & Professional Studies are covered under EN 12: Continuing Education to prevent double-counting.
