A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):
Through the Orientation team, new students receive information about how they can support Sheridan’s Mission Zero sustainability framework prior to their orientation week. They are encouraged to bring their own water bottles and refill their bottles at the bottle refilling stations available across the campus.
The Office for Sustainability sets up a promotion booth in all campuses during the Orientation Days, and all new students are invited to visit us to learn about Sheridan’s Mission Zero initiatives. At the booth, the students are informed on our Mission Zero goals and progress, and they learn about how to reduce waste on campus through an interactive game. They are also invited to sign up as Mission Zero volunteers or join our mailing list. New volunteers will receive training so they can help educate others on the impact of their daily actions.
As well, transit providers are invited to the campus to hand out information and provide travel/walking safety tips. Therefore, new students learn about different transit options to commute to campus.
