A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:

The Green Team initiative was created by the Office for Sustainability. The Green Team is campus-based and generally meets once a month. The role of Green Team members included the following:
- Help raise awareness about sustainability in your own groups;
- Make observations in your offices/classrooms and around the campus, and bring feedback to the team; and
- Share and implement green ideas by incorporating sustainability into the daily activities around the campus.

The Green Team organized/supported a variety of outreach activities, such as Guided Nature Walk, Wildflower Planting Event, and Tour de Sheridan Bike Events.


A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:

The employee educators (i.e. the Green Team members) participated in the program on a voluntary basis. In other words, they are self-selected. To help Sheridan promote its Mission Zero initiatives and become a sustainable campus, all staff and faculty members are encouraged to join the Green Teams across the three campuses. Moreover, employees are also regularly informed on sustainability related events that are planned across campuses such as Campus Cleanups, Garden Planting and Bike to Work and E-Waste Collection days, through the employee newsletter, the Sheridan Insider.

There were 37 Green Team members during the 2016/2017 fiscal year.


A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:

New Green Team members were introduced to the group, receive an overview of Sheridan's sustainability initiatives and the Office for Sustainability, and received information about how the meetings are structured. All members joined the mailing list and received updates, news and meeting information regularly. Each members learned about how to conduct peer outreach by participating in the planning process at the Green Team meeting.


A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):

The Green Team initiative was created and led by the Office for Sustainability. A Green Team was set up in each of the three campuses. Every team met once a month to share their ideas on how to raise awareness about sustainability in their own group and the Sheridan community. The Sustainability Coordinator chaired the Trafalgar Green Team meeting, and the Davis and Hazel McCallion Green Teams were chaired by other volunteer staff at those two campuses. The Green Team Chairs set up and facilitated the meetings and provided support as needed.
