Sheridan is the first higher education institution in Canada hosting a Repair Café on campus. At the Repair Café, you can receive help on fixing your broken item, anything from computers and electronics to small appliances and clothes. Fixers, or volunteers who are skilled at doing repairs, not only help visitors fix their items but also show them how they do the repairs. This is a free event and everyone is welcome to participate.

The Repair Café is a global initiative that aims to reduce needless waste and change the throw-away mindset of our society. Started in Amsterdam in 2009, the Repair Café’s worldwide network includes more than 1200 local cafés around the world (see http://repaircafe.org/en).

A brief description of the institution’s other community partnerships to advance sustainability:

Sheridan College is working with the Town of Oakville to develop a Community Energy Plan (CEP) that will set clear targets for reducing energy and greenhouse gas emissions.

The CEP will look at the types of energy we use as a community; how much energy is used by our homes, businesses and travel habits; and how population, employment and land use impact our energy needs. The Plan will act as a guide to help the town, its residents, businesses and industry adopt new technology to reduce emissions, keep more energy dollars local and improve overall energy security and efficiency.
