3. Herb Sinnock, Manager of Sustainable Energy Systems and Sheridan’s Office for Sustainability, is a member of Burlington’s Sustainable Development Committee. The Committee’s role in the community is to promote principles and objectives of sustainable development and to advise and assist City Hall and staff and City Council members on these issues. Organized conferences and workshops as well as submitted position papers help achieve this. One of the Committee’s objectives is to encourage the development of Efficient Urban Design. This encompasses: increasing efficiency of land use in the urban community in terms of energy and time; and promoting policies that encourage intensification and diversification rather than policies that generate urban sprawl.
