• SFU has adopted a formal open access strategy in 2010, making one of the first Canadian Institutions to embrace Open Access (OA) publishing: http://www.lib.sfu.ca/collections/scholarly-publishing/openaccess. Key elements include:
• SFU Central Open Access Fund (to pay article processing charges for SFU authors to publish in OA journals): http://www.lib.sfu.ca/collections/scholarly-publishing/sfu-open-access-fund.
• SFU Summit open access research repository :http://summit.sfu.ca/
• SFU Scholarly Digitization Fund (covers costs associated with digitizing scholarly materials) http://www.lib.sfu.ca/collections/digitization-fund
• SSU hosts the Public Knowledge Project, a multi-university initiative developing (free) open source software and conducting research to improve the quality and reach of scholarly publishing.
• OJS (Open Journal Systems) is the world's most widely used journal management and publishing system. SFU affiliated journals are hosted at no charge
• OCS (Open Conference Systems).
• OMP (Open Monograph Press).
• Facilitating access to OA publishing: OA journals are included in the Library's catalogue, link resolver and knowledge base, and e-journals database.
• Providing support: SFU authors and editors have access to the services of liaison librarians, the Copyright officer and the Research Commons who will provide information about scholarly communications issues, publishing OA, author rights and addendums to publisher agreements and who also promote SFU’s research repository Summit.
