Beginning in the spring of 2013, Skidmore undertook a rigorous study of possibly divesting our investment holdings in fossil fuels. A task force consisting of students, staff, faculty, and a member of our Board of Trustees was formed and grappled with a variety of questions, including: our understanding of the meaning and intent of fossil fuel divestment, a review of the ways in which other institutions have handled this issue, and an analysis of the potential effect of divestment upon Skidmore’s endowment and operating budget. Following a period of open community input, the task force made a series of recommendations to our Board of Trustees and campus community.
