A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:

SDSU partook in the Great Colleges to Work For program, underwritten by the Chronicle of Higher Education and administered by MondernThink LLC. The survey covers 15 topics, including job satisfaction/support; teaching environment; professional development; compensation, benefits & work/life balance; facilities; policies, resources & efficiency; shared governance; pride; supervisors/department chairs; senior leadership; faculty, administration & staff relations; communication; collaboration; fairness; respect & appreciation. The survey has been administered in 2010, 2012, and 2015. It is sent out randomly to 600 university employees that fall into the categories of administration, faculty, exempt professional staff, and non-exempt staff.


A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation (including examples from the previous three years):

SDSU is just beginning its analysis of the 2015 survey results. Past efforts to improve in low-scoring areas include: implementing routine coffee/information sessions with administrators and offices across campus to better inform professional staff of happenings on campus, enhanced new staff orientation/welcome programs to better acclimate professional staff to their campus work environment, and follow up surveys specific to professional staff to gather further qualitative responses to areas of strengths or weaknesses.
