Does the institution make cultural competence trainings and activities available to all students?:
Yes

A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:

SUNY Cortland students have a variety of ways to receive training in areas of diversity and multicultural life. The Multicultural and Diversity office on our campus provides a lot of programs for students to attend with a focus on civility. Some examples of programs offered are: "Being Civil is All About Being Human: Is an -ISM threatening your humanity", "Racial Diaries of White and Black Students", and "Unintentional Intolerance". The campus also hosts a Student Diversity conference.

There are also numerous multicultural student groups on campus including: Black Student Union, Men of Value and Excellence, Spectrum (gay-straight alliance), La Familia Latina, Hillel, Pan African Student Association, AIDS Prevention and Awareness, Women of Color, and Caribbean Student Association.

SUNY Cortland student staff from Residence Life and Housing, including resident assistants participate in diversity training sessions each semester. The longer the staff member is employed, the more extensive and in depth the training gets with the hope to expand and deepen the multicultural competence.

Students residing in on campus housing have numerous opportunities to experience multicultural life and diversity. Resident assistants are expected to collaborate to plan and implement a diversity themed program in the residence hall each semester. Many of their other programs have underlying themes as well.
