A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:

Data was collected from a spring 2016 ESF Commuter Survey. The survey used to collect this data asked employees about commuting activity in warmer months versus colder months. Based on average yearly temperature, Syracuse has four cold months (Jan., Feb., March, and Dec.) and eight warm months (April, May, June, July, Aug., Sept., Oct., and Nov). The survey asked employees if they worked during the summer. 76% of employees said "yes" and 24% said "no." The numbers reported are the result of the weighted average accounting for warm months, cold months, and employees who work year-round (12 months) versus only during the academic year (nine months).
