A brief summary of papers, guides, presentations, and other resources the institution has developed to share their sustainability experience with other institutions:
Stony Brook University participates on committees and scheduled monthly conference calls within the State University of New York (SUNY) Sustainability group, which includes efforts to organize SUNY Sustainability coordinators, communicate initiatives, best practices and ways to procure Renewable Energy Certificates (REC's) for SUNY.
Stony Brook University has also coordinated and organized the 2015 SUNY Sustainability Conference, with the assistance of other SUNY campuses. This is an annual conference held at different campuses within New York State.

Within the State University of New York school system, Stony Brook University has pledged to commit to Energy-Smart New York; a plan to reduce SUNY’s system-wide energy consumption by 20% by 2020. As a school, we have also committed to Governor Cuomo’s Initiative known as Build Smart NY which involves a 20% energy reduction for state agencies.
Stony Brook University is also a member of the Greater Long Island Clean Cities (GLICCC). The Greater Long Island Clean Cities Coalition (GLICCC) is part of a 15-year-old, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Clean Cities program that boasts close to 90 chapters nationwide. GLICCC’s mission and passion is to increase the public’s awareness and use of Alternative Fuels and Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs), while decreasing our regional and national dependency on foreign oil.
The University is also a member of the Groundwater Foundation, AASHE and United States Green Building Council.
A brief summary of additional ways the institution collaborates with other campuses to advance sustainability :
Over the past 2 years, Stony Brook University has collaborated with a variety of other campuses to advance sustainability. First, the university competes against other university's in New York State in RecycleMania; which is held in February and March annually. In 2012 & 2013, SBU finished in 1st place in the Gorilla category in NYS and also in 1st place nationally in recycling e-waste.
In addition to RecycleMania, the University also competes against other SUNY campuses in the Campus Conservation Nationals in order to reduce electric consumption. This event was organized in April 2014 and again internally to SBU in November 2014. In the April 2014 competition, SBU finished in 2nd place against other SUNY campuses.
For the 2015-16 school year, the University is working with other New York State based campuses in order to organize a regular, fall based energy conservation competition that would pit campuses against one another using building dashboard energy software.
