A brief description of when and why the building energy consumption baseline was adopted:

This baseline year was adopted after the start of the university's participation in the ACUPCC.

A brief description of any building temperature standards employed by the institution:
---

A brief description of any light emitting diode (LED) lighting employed by the institution:

Stony Brook is currently retrofitting all surface lots on campus with energy efficient LED lights. We have also retrofitted several campus buildings with LED lighting, which has resulted in monumental energy savings.

A brief description of any occupancy and/or vacancy sensors employed by the institution:

Stony Brook currently has occupancy sensors in many of our buildings and classrooms. We are currently evaluating new areas where these sensors can be installed. It is our goal to have occupancy sensors in all possible locations while maintaining a safe campus environment.

A brief description of any passive solar heating employed by the institution:

New buildings on campus are required to be built at least to the LEED Silver level, as prescribed by the USGBC.

A brief description of any ground-source heat pumps employed by the institution:

The Advanced Research Energy and Technology Center in R&D Park, The Simon's Center on West Campus, and the Library in Southampton employ ground source heat pumps.

A brief description of any cogeneration technologies employed by the institution:

Stony Brook University has a Cogeneration plant located on West Campus. The plant provides the majority of energy for the West and East Campus' buildings.

A brief description of any building recommissioning or retrofit program employed by the institution:

Stony Brook requires that all retrofit buildings be at least LEED Silver as described by the USGBC.

A brief description of any energy metering and management systems employed by the institution:

Stony Brook uses Schneider Electric Power Monitoring Expert and EnergyCap to manage and monitor building energy consumption.

A brief description of the institution's program to replace energy-consuming appliances, equipment and systems with high efficiency alternatives:

All new appliances and equipment on campus must meet the highest possible efficiency standards set by the U.S. EPA.

A brief description of any energy-efficient landscape design initiatives employed by the institution:

Stony Brook has been replacing grass areas with natural bio-swales to reduce irrigation, fertilizer and pesticide use on campus.

A brief description of any vending machine sensors, lightless machines, or LED-lit machines employed by the institution:

All vending machines on campus are being replaced with more efficient models.

A brief description of other energy conservation and efficiency initiatives employed by the institution:

Stony Brook has a variety of energy saving programs on campus. They range from retrofitting old buildings, making sure all new buildings are as efficient as possible, and challenging the campus community, to be conscious of the way they use resources. We have also partnered with NYPA and Honeywell on Energy Efficiency audits and projects.
