Syracuse University is committed to using LEED, (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) when building new buildings that exceed $10,000,000. This was instituted when we signed the american Colleges and Universities Presidents Climate Commitment, now known as Second Nature.

Syracuse University uses web-based Energy Cap software to manage the energy use on campus. We review and assess the data quarterly/yearly and against past data, to set goals and implement strategies to lower our energy use and greenhouse gases using these assessment reports.

A brief description of the water management or benchmarking program:

Water use data is tracked electronically on a quarterly basis using the web-based Energy CAP software. The University conducted an initial bench marking assessment of water use used by buildings for the period 2011. The University tracks and evaluates water use and sewer use quarterly for all buildings. The data is used to identify anomalies, such as, water main breaks, water over usage due to faucet and toilet issues, etc to make sure we are conserving our water to the best of our ability.
