A brief summary of the climate plan’s long-term goals:
Texas A&M has been aggressively reducing its overall energy consumption and GHG emissions for the past 10 years. Since 2002, the campus has grown from approximately 18.5 million to 22.5 million Gross Square Feet (GSF) and during that same period overall campus energy consumption has decreased from 6.8 trillion to about 4.8 trillion Btus. This is an over 40% reduction when viewed from a energy consumed per gross square feet or EUI perspective.
A brief summary of the climate plan’s short-term goals:
In 2011, Texas A&M launched the Energy Action Plan 2015 or simply EAP 2015. The program builds on the past success but more importantly lays the foundation for the future. The overall objective of the program is to reduce energy consumption by an additional 20% for the five year period from FY11 through FY15 or to reach a Campus Energy Use (EUI) Index of 190 mBtus per GSF.
The program is comprised of many different initiatives and has been formally adopted and supported by the campus administration.
When accomplished the campus will have reduced its EUI from 364 in 2002 to 190 in 2015.
