The New School's Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC) was formed after President Bob Kerrey signed the ACUPCC. The committee is comprised of faculty, staff, an alumnus and both graduate and undergraduate students. The objective of the SAC is to steer the university towards becoming more sustainable and lead the development and execution of the Climate Action Plan.

Today, SAC is a vital group of 20 people representing five of the eight schools and critical administrative departments such as the Registrar’s Office, IT, Student Housing and Residence Life, Business Operations Services, and Human Resources, as well as an alumnus and members of student organizations such as ReNew School, the Urban Forestry Club, and Net Impact.

MISSION STATEMENT

A steering committee made up of staff, faculty, alumni and students, under the Assistant Director for Sustainability & Energy Management, tasked with informing institutional best practices that will reduce environmental impacts, engage the community to be stewards of the environment and evolve curriculum to meet the demands of the careers of the future.

Working groups were created within the committee to focus on specific areas of practice and encourage more collaboration among members between monthly meetings:

The Office for Sustainability is housed in Design, Construction and Facilities Management. This office manages the institution's environmental impact mitigation planning, public environmental commitments and outreach and communications around issues of sustainability.

A brief description of the sustainability coordinator’s position:

The Assistant Director for Sustainability & Energy Management implements strategies to reduce the The New School's environmental impacts and manages all public environmental commitments. Collaborating with faculty to expand sustainability in curriculum and research is a component of this role as well. This coordinator chairs the Sustainability Advisory Committee and serves on the Dining Services Committee as well as the Parsons Sustainability Committee.
