The Ohio State University at Lima. The mission of the Diversity Council is to infuse diversity into the University in such a way to create a culture of diversity on the campus. To achieve this feat, Diversity Council members assist the Diversity Council Chair (John A. Upshaw) and the University in assessing and revising existing practices and makes recommendations in the planning and developing of new practices and initiatives that will promote diversity on the campus. Such initiatives would include but not limited to: increasing the number of underrepresented students, faculty and staff as well as the retaining of these groups and creating diversity awareness and engagement initiatives as well as developing partnerships with underrepresented/minority-owned and women-owned suppliers. The ultimate goal of which is to make the University a more balanced and diverse institution of higher learning. This will also filter into the extended community and help to promote a more diverse community in general.

The Special Assistant & Chief Diversity Officer at Ohio State Lima has programmatic authority and oversight over a wide range of issues as relates to diversity and therefore, serves as an executive staff member and assists the Dean and Director of Ohio State Lima with the strategic planning process as relates to issues of diversity. Moreover, the Chief Diversity Officer serves as the Chairperson for the Diversity Council.
