Which of the following best describes the institution’s approach to rainwater management?:
No written policies, plans or guidelines, but green infrastructure and LID practices are used

A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:

The Marion Campus utilizes a three-acre retention pond in the center of the campus to handle storm water from all buildings, with the exception of the Maintenance/Storage/Receiving Building and parking lots west of Grave Creek. During the construction phase of campus buildings and parking lots on the west side of Grave Creek, underground piping was added to carry stormwater to the pond. There is an overflow spillway in the pond that is piped to Grave Creek (east of pond), which is part of the Marion County flood plan.

A brief description of the institution’s rainwater management policy, plan, and/or guidelines that supports the responses above:

Vegetated swales are used between campus parking lots #1, #2, #3.

Additionally, OSU Marion uses xeriscape landscaping techniques, including the integration of drought tolerant plants. Many landscape beds and open areas on campus use prairie plants native to this region for landscape purposes. Also, there is a prairie nature center on six acres of the Marion campus that serves as a teaching lab for campus students and community schools. The prairie is burned every two to three years to maintain the area and help new plant growth.
