Does the institution have an active student group focused on sustainability?:
Yes

A brief description of the student group, including its activities:

The TRU Eco Club is a student group that holds a number of events throughout the year to raise sustainability awareness. The group was founded in 2007 and has been very active since its inception.

Mission Statement: “TRU-ECO's mission is to identify sustainability issues, promote public awareness, develop strategies, and implement solutions in support of sustainability, both on campus and within the community.”

"Ongoing Projects:
Get Caught Green Handed Program
This is an exciting new campaign that TRU ECO will be running all year long at TRU. If any of our TRU-ECO members catches you doing something good for the environment, like picking up litter, recycling instead of throwing items away, printing double sided, carpooling, etc., you could be caught Green-Handed and receive a prize!

Community Garden
Many student groups at TRU have been pushing for a community garden for quite a while now, and TRU-ECO has played an important role in pressuring Administration to provide the opportunity for students to grow their own food on campus. With a newly-appointed Sustainability Director, the Community Garden Project has been pushed forward again. Check here for updates on the project as they happen!

Recycling Corner
TRU-ECO is currently providing the opportunity for students to recycle plastic milk jugs and containers. The bin is located in International Building next to the Starbuck's Coffee shop.
We will also be recycling batteries, cell phones, and eyeglasses very soon.

Past Events
