Sustainability focused courses are dedicated to addressing the concepts and literature that contribute to a student's in-depth knowledge on the economic, environmental, social, scientific, cultural, or health related aspects of sustainability.
Sustainability related courses draw on theories or issues that contribute to a student's knowledge of the concept of sustainability, in conjunction with their field of study. This can be a section of a course or chapter on sustainability, an examination of a sustainability principle or a connection made to a wider sustainability framework.
Students that have completed a sustainability focused or related course should have the ability to:
Communicate the concept of sustainability effectively
Understand the need to work towards a more sustainable society, in terms of the sustainability concepts covered in class.
Be able to link their field of study with sustainability issues and explore ways in which their field of study can contribute to sustainability.
Be able to understand and be aware of interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability.
Develop and use technical knowledge to implement sustainable solutions.
Understand the way in which sustainable education and thinking contributes to the process of creating local and global solutions for crises resulting from unsustainable practices.
The goal of sustainability education is to equip students with the knowledge that will allow them to create solutions to satisfying the needs of the present without compromising those of the future.
