A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:

The TRU Office of Environment & Sustainability has booths at all new student orientation events. The purpose of these booths is to increase interest in sustainability both on and off campus. In addition, it allows students to share their thoughts on the subject. Materials available at the booths introduces students to TRU’s efforts to increase sustainability on campus, as well as what students can do to help. New at the fall 2014 new student orientation was the introduction of TRU’s Green Guide, which informs students about many of the simple and every-day ‘green’ actions they can take. Sustainability is also promoted in other areas with the distribution of reusable water bottles and shopping and laundry bags. Also new at the fall 2014 orientation was the fact that it was TRU’s first major zero-waste event. Only four zero-waste stations were available for patrons to discard of all ‘waste’. Student and staff volunteers were stationed at each station in order to inform event participants about which of the five waste-stream bins they should use to propoerly discard what they had.
