The base line year is 2010, this decision was made because of accessibility of data and also was the year the university decided to be a sustainable institution. After this year, the Sustainabilitu Center was created and many sustainable strategies started.

The University of Monterrey uses treated wastewater for irrigation. This non-potable water is the effluent of an industrial wastewater treatment plant. Water-quality data are available on the web site.

Tha maintenance and construction department has into their policies that all new equipment shall be water saving.

Landcape design for the campus establishes the use of native species and drought tolerant plantings and removal of invasive species. The irrigation is made with dripping method.

There is no weather irrigation technologies, in case of a rainy day the irigation process is cancelled.

The Sustainability Center in partnership with the Maintenance and Residencial College have a water saving campaign. Also during the semester on certain activities to promote sustainability the water and energy saving programs are shown.
