According to the university’s regulation on preventing and fighting harassment, the centre’s responsibilities include:
- Processing and tracking consultation requests and reports of harassment
- Implementing a problem-solving approach
- Creating and updating a list of mediators
- Receiving complaints and forwarding them to the relevant vice rector

When it receives a complaint, the Centre carries out an initial assessment of the nature, scope, and severity of the problem and discusses possible solutions (conciliation, on-site measures, formal complaint procedure, etc.) with the individual concerned. These solutions may include a referral to other resources in compliance with the laws or policies, regulations, directives, collective agreements, or other agreements in force at the university. Student Services has a comprehensive program in place to support minority students. It includes:
- The Student Assistance Centre, which runs orientations, supports persons with disabilities, provides psychological support, and offers academic success assistance (including activities for foreign students). www.aide.ulaval.ca

- The Student Life Office, which welcomes, informs, and supports university students from outside Quebec. It offers activities to help them adapt to campus life and get to know Quebec, a bilingual guidebook, a buddy program, and one-on-one meetings to help students with formalities and the adjustment process. https://www.bve.ulaval.ca/accompagnement_des_etudiants_etrangers/

The Université Laval Personnel Assistance Program offers free and confidential consultation meetings with experienced psychologists. Université Laval has a welcome program (meetings) and training opportunities for new staff (including faculty). In one such training session on intercultural communication, participants learn to better understand and interact more effectively with people from different cultures.

In addition, Université Laval offers a French program to help new faculty and their spouses adjust to life in Quebec City. The university covers the tuition fees for French as a foreign language courses pursuant to its policy on French use and the faculty’s collective agreement.

- Create a learning community in which they can help one another become better teachers
- Introduce major changes during a short class
