UCC Campus Apiary

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

In the spring of 2018, 6 native Irish honeybee hives were established at the UCC North Mall campus site. The hives are maintained by a local beekeeper and are in the process of establishing themselves over the summer. The initiatives draws attention to the plight of native honeybees in Ireland. It is anticipated that when the hives are established they will be used for research and educational purposes and that the honey will be available to buy at UCC, demonstrating local production of this commodity.
