A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:

Student travel surveys are undertaken yearly by the commuter manager, the link is sent out to AllStudents announcements list, plus the teaching or admin staff in most academic departments and the students union to encourage students to take the survey. The results presented here are from the 2017 annual survey.
