Does the institution make cultural competence trainings and activities available to all employees?:
Yes

A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:

UAA's Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) has hosted programs to train faculty groups in cultural sensitivity and competence including: Using Native Case Studies for Teaching & Learning Across the Disciplines, Educator Cross Cultural Immersion Program International Reception, Navigating Diversity Issues in the Classroom, and an International and Intercultural Retreat.

Employees are expected to complete cultural competence training that discusses legal compliance and going beyond legal compliance by embracing cultural differences offered through the Compliance section of the Office of Diversity & Compliance.

Additionallly, several times during the year the Welcoming Diversity/ Prejudice Reduction Workshop (an 8 hour workshop) helps participants (students, staff and faculty) understand how they have been taught to think and act as members of their racial, gender, and other identity groups and provides skills for bridging differences.
