Is the institution's default not to print course catalogs, course schedules, and directories, but instead make these materials available online?:
Yes

A brief description of the practice:

"UAF administration made the decision in Fall 2010 to stop printing the class schedule beginning Fall 2011. (Meaning, the last printed schedule would be Spring 2011. We even put "collector's edition" on the cover to emphasize the point.) Beginning Fall 2011, students and faculty can find schedules online in two locations:
UAOnline www.uaonline.alaska.edu
Course Finder http://www.uaf.edu/coursefinder/
(Note that on Course Finder, a person can open up a PDF or XLS file of the schedule, if they wish to save it to their local computer for quick reference and for searching, sorting, filtering, etc.)

The old schedule was almost 100 pages of newsprint and we printed about 25,000 of them per year. We replaced it with a "registration guide" which I believe is about 35 pages and we will only print about 5,000 per year. The purpose of the guide is to give new students instructions on how to register.

The UAF catalog itself is available online, but we still print approximately 3,000 of them per year for staff, faculty and student use. My goal is to go paperless with the catalog soon, but I get the sense that our users (primarily staff, faculty and advisors) are not quite ready for that step yet. I expect to be there within 2 years."
