Is the institution's default not to print course catalogs, course schedules, and directories, but instead make these materials available online?:
Yes

A brief description of the practice:

All University of Alberta course schedules and registration directories are available online, accessible only by current students for course registration purposes using an online tool called Bear Tracks. The annual academic calendar is also available online. This major publication includes admission procedures and deadlines, academic regulations, programs of study, academic standards, degree requirements, general university policies and codes, for both undergraduate and graduate students, is also available online. However, this online calendar is public.

A printed version of this calendar is provided to students who request it; however, the majority of people access the calendar using the online system.

The Office of the Registrar, a major source of academic related student services, has shown that there has been substantial progress in using the online system, as evidenced by the reduced number of printed calendars they have required every year:

- 2011/12 academic year, 12 000 calendars were printed
- 2009/10 academic year, 15 000 calendars were printed
- 2006/07 academic year, 24 000 calendars were printed
- 2005/06 academic year, 25 000 calendars were printed
